The 2018 Seminar on Meteorological disaster relief for Developing Countries had been successfully concluded

On the afternoon of April 28th, the closing ceremony of Seminar on Meteorological disaster relief for Developing Countries has been successfully held in NUIST. The Seminar was organized by the Ministry of Commerce and hosted by the World Meteorological Organization Nanjing Regional Training Center. Prof. Liu Xuanfei, vice-president, NUIST, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The closing ceremony was presided over by Mr. Zhu Jinjun, Deputy Director of the WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center.

Prof. Liu Xuanfei pointed out in his speech that although the training time is only 21 days, the content is comprehensive, which mainly related to meteorological disaster monitoring and early warning, dynamic mechanism of weather disasters, climate change and extreme weather events, weather forecast , Meteorological Satellite Applications, Cenozoic Doppler Weather Radar Meteorological Disaster Prevention and Management, Natural Disaster Rescue Techniques, and Emergency Management. In addition, the WMO Regional Training Center also organized trainees to visit the Shanghai Meteorological Service and the Nantong Weather Service. Through this 21-day exchange and training, all participants not only learned professional theoretical knowledge, but also acquired relevant practical methods and capabilities, which provided lessons for disaster reduction and disaster relief in various countries. On behalf of all participants, Mr. HABON·KINGSTON from Papua New Guinea delivered a speech. Mr. KINGSTON once studied for a Master degree of Meteorology at our school. After obtaining the degree, this was his second time to participate in the training program of our center. He said that the trainees learned new knowledge and new skills in this training. The training methods in the classroom plus the practice base, and the training methods in connection with the theory have made everyone benefit from it. In addition, during the seminar, the trainees also visited some of the places of interest on the weekends and felt the profoundness and unique charm of Chinese culture.
