2018 Seminar on Meteorological Forecasts for Countries along the Belt and Road was Held in NUIST

On the afternoon of May 24th, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce-sponsored and the World Meteorological Organization Nanjing Regional Training Center-Organized 2018 Seminar on Meteorological Forecasts for Countries along the Belt and Road successfully opened in NUIST. The seminar included 14 participates from Ukraine, Azerbaijan, south Sudan, Nepal and Cuba. Prof. Liu Xuanfei, vice-president, NUIST, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Ma Tinghuai, Executive Deputy Director of the WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center.

Firstly, Vice President LIU Xuanfei expressed warm welcome to all participants. He pointed out that weather forecasting technology is an important basis of meteorological services, a key area of human resources construction in the field of meteorology, and an important technology to ensure real-time, accurate and effective meteorological services. Regular training and seminars on forecasting techniques are essential for the capacity-building of meteorological professionals in developing countries. He hope participants go over the technical principles and thinking of weather forecast technology, learn meteorological forecast technology like the numerical model, weather radar and meteorological satellite, and makes a discussion and communication on related issues, in order to further improve the level of weather forecast.

Mr. ROMAN BANAKH, a weather forecaster from the Ukrainian hydrology and meteorology centre, spoke on behalf of all participates. He said, “China is famous for its hospitality. When we first arrived in China, we already felt this. We are very grateful to the Chinese government and NUIST for providing such an opportunity to learn and communicate. We will seize the opportunity to study hard and apply what we have learned to practical work.”

According to statistics, at present, our international training program has covered 61 countries along Belt and Road and trained a large number of technical backbones for countries along Belt and Road.
