The Training Course on Agro-meteorology for Developing Countries Was Held in NUIST

On the morning of September 1, the opening ceremony of The 2017 Training Course on Agro-meteorology for Developing Countries has been successfully held in Nanjing University of Information Science Technology. The Seminar was organized by the Ministry of Commerce and hosted by the World Meteorological Organization Nanjing Regional Training Center. Prof. LIU Xuanfei, vice-president, NUIST, and Ms. Zhao Yuhong, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Department of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The ceremony was presided over by professor Wang Suchun, Deputy Director of WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center.

Firstly, Vice President LIU Xuanfei expressed warm welcome to the participants and gave a brief introduction to NUIST and WMO Regional Training Center. He said that despite the impressive advances in agricultural technology over the last half a century, agricultural production is for a large part still depend on weather and climate. More than ever, increasing climate variability and associated extreme events caused by climate change have been posing challenges on agro-meteorological services, which can lead to the social and economic impacts, particularly in developing countries.We hope that this training course will serve as a platform for communication. We invited agro meteorological experts to teach basic knowledge of Agrometeorology. You can understand the latest development of Agrometeorology and communication among countries.

On behalf of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, Director Zhao Yuhong warmly welcomed all participants. She said, Foreign aid training is one of assistance that Chinese government providing for other developing countries. WMO RTC Nanjing, as a Chinese foreign aid training institution, contributed to improving ability and imparting new knowledge and technology to the meteorological, seismic, environmental sector employees from developing countries. The Chinese government hopes that through training, participants learn more about China and act as ambassador to promote economic and trade relations between China and other countries.

On behalf of participants, Ms. LARYSA from Ukraine delivered a speech. She said that Agriculture and Meteorology are closely linked, and the change of meteorology affects the production and development of agriculture, affecting the production and living of the people and economic development. Therefore, it is very important to learn the knowledge of Agro-meteorology. The Seminar is due to the Chinese government efforts. On behalf of all participants, she sincerely appreciated Chinese government and WMO RTC and NUIST for sponsoring this seminar. And she hope all participant can take this opportunity to exchange experience, learning new knowledge and skills.
