Seminar on Climate Change and Climate Information Service for Developing countries Successfully Concluded

On the afternoon of May 8th, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce sponsored and the World Meteorological Organization Nanjing Regional Training Center Organized 2018 Seminar on Climate Change and Climate Information Service for Developing Countries successfully concluded in NUIST. Prof. Liu Xuanfei, Vice-president of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Thirty-two participants from 10 countries including Palestine, Laos, South Sudan, Tunisia, Colombia, Uganda, Zambia, Kenya, Mongolia and Bangladesh successfully completed their studies. The closing ceremony was presided over by professor Ma Tinghuai, Excutive Deputy Director of the WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center.

Firstly, Prof. Liu Xuanfei extended his congratulations to 32 participants from 10 countries and thanked their cooperation and support during seminar. He pointed out in his speech the seminar has included both the basic theoretical topics on climatology and climate change, and related operational considerations on climate modeling, warning of climate hazards, monitoring and assessment of climate resources, BCC Climate prediction model system and application of artificial intelligence in climate change and arranged study tours to Shanghai and Nantong Meteorological Services. He hoped that the participates could bring the knowledge and practical skills they learned in the past three weeks back to their respective work, gradually increase their competitiveness, and will contribute to the higher accuracy and efficiency of climate information service of their countries. In addition, he welcomes participates aboard come to NUIST as a master or doctorate degree candidate

On behalf of all participates, Mr. Rokonuzzaman from Bangladesh delivered a speech. He said that climate change and climate information services play a very important role in actively responding to climate disasters. This seminar forcused on climate change and climate information services and was comprehensive and rich in content. , From climatology, climate change, climate simulation and its application in climate prediction, to agricultural meteorological information services, climate resource assessment, extreme weather monitoring, early warning, etc. These knowledge will greatly enhance their professional skills and use these knowledge in daily work; it will help improve the accuracy and efficiency of meteorological service work. In addition, they also had study tour in Shanghai and Nantong. They also went shopping on the weekends. enjoyed the beautiful natural scenery of China, appreciated China’s long history and culture, and felt China’s strong cultural heritage. Finally, on behalf of all the participates, he expressed his sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Commerce of China, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology and WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center.
